Objective / Solution
Create compelling cover art for a National Parks travel guide series written by one of America’s great travel and storytelling brands.
Founded in 2012, Wildsam is an American travel brand built upon telling true stories of place, and we’ve had the pleasure of partnering with them on an array of projects.
Like other Wildsam travel guides, this series utilizes bespoke colorways to identify and brand each National Park.
The design intent is to quickly capture a reader’s curiosity, create a flexible system for the series as a whole, and stay true to the tenants of the Wildsam brand. The Grand Canyon guide, “Ages At Work,” blends hues of red rock and sunset highlighted by the soft blue of The Colorado River.
Their National Parks series explores far beyond traditional trail and campground information, delving deep into the parks’ flora and fauna, myths, environmental politics, and subcultures. The series launched with four iconic parks — Grand Canyon, Great Smoky Mountains, Yosemite, and Rocky Mountain National Park.
Abstract illustrations of each park’s iconic landscapes take center stage on the guides’ front covers.
The illustrations use gradients of each National Park’s color palette to create depth and dimension, complemented by accent colors.
The guides, like the National Parks themselves, are a celebration of America’s treasured lands and a call to their continued exploration and preservation.
