Objective / Solution
Reimagine the brand design and story for a bespoke residential architecture firm that honors its past and lays the foundation for its future.
Founded in 1994 by Phil Dufford and John Young, Dufford Young Architects is a bespoke architecture firm in Charleston’s historic district. An intentionally small residential firm, the two principals, both Clemson School of Architecture graduates, build enduring relationships with clients and have a hand in every project they undertake — from new construction to historic renovation.
The logomark is a silhouette of a pheasant which symbolizes harmony and balance, core components of the studio’s design philosophy. The “tail” wraps up and around in a subtle nod to an open, arched doorway of a home.
The letterforms in the identity reflect the brand’s thoughtful, balanced, and timeless aesthetic.
The color palette combines classic and contemporary hues that are both timeless and elegant.
The brand design beautifully translates across an array of print materials — business cards, letterhead, notepads, folders, mailing tubes and labels, creating an elegant, cohesive system.
